6 October, 2006 - As co-organizers with the Finland Institute of Health and the World Health Organization of Quit&Win 2006, the Anti Tobacco Movement at Amrita announced that Mr. Rajan was the winner of the international regional prize worth US $2500. The check in the amount of Rs. 1.135 lakhs was presented by Padmasree Kamal Hassan, one of the few great Indian actors who have been nominated for the Oscar award. Other regional prizes were distributed by outsanding cricketeer Sri S. Srishanth.
Any adult daily smoker who could abstain from smoking for a period of four weeks beginning in May could register for the contest. Abstinence from smoking was verified by a witness and a biochemical test performed with the urine sample of the lucky winner.
Two other events were coupled with the programme. One was the prize distribution of the Poster and Logo Competition conducted by the ABCD Forum. Amrita Blood Collectors and Donors Forum is an ATMA Social Service initiative to promote voluntary blood donation. The prize was awarded by Sri S. Srishanth.
The other event was the release of the Textbook of Biochemistry for Dental Students, authored by Prof. D. M. Vasudevan, Dean Amrita School of Medicine, and Dr. Sreekumari S. The book was offically announced by Kamal Hassan
The programme was one of the most colourful and cheerful events at AIMS this year.
